Hi everyone!

Today I am going to represent you a book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. The "Giver" is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a highly structured community in the future. Jonas and his family were showing their feelings at mealtime. His sister Lily is annoyed because she was pestered by kids on the field, father is worried because one of the newborns at work is doing badly and might be released. Mother is worried because a repeat offender showed up in her courtroom and if he will break a law a third time she will be released into elsewhere.  Jonas is worried about the upcoming ceremony of twelve. He and everyone in his class are going to be assigned jobs. Jonas's parents assure him that the council of elders is always very careful about job assignments, therefore they put everyone in the job that fits them best. The only job he can rule out is birth mother which seems to be the worst job. A birth mother gets to have three children as a teenager, then she spends the rest of her life doing manual labor. It's like to be pregnant in 16 years old. Moreover, each family is allowed a maximum of two children and not everyone chooses to be assigned a spouse or children. Given this information, I can conclude that the population is slowly shrinking over time.

What I like most about this book is that it's a novel really easy to read, it has a really interesting story don't like science fiction stories. This book imagines a world that we are soo far from being because we like to be unique and we don't like to be in the same as every other person. I will keep reading this book because for me it's easy to understand what is happening after every event or action. I was always impressed by reading those books which can show for us different world or place which is not the same as your world with appropriate rules. By the time I will finish reading this book and at the same time, I will post my other responses about this book.

  1. Hi Ernest - It sounds like this society is trying to take away people's unique characteristics. Is that what you are saying? I wonder why anyone would want to do that.

  3. hello Ernest, I have watched a film based on this book. As for me, there are lots of prohibitions and people do not have full, free life. What do you think about main character? Is he going to violate rules?

  4. Hi!
I didn't read this story, but i watched a film. And as i noticed, There are many differences in the book and in the film. You told in an interesting way, I would read this book, but as i have already seen the film, I think it would not be so interesting.
