Hello everyone!
Today I would like to represent you a fascinating book “Between shades of gray” by Ruta Sepetys. I have read this book before because I am enjoying only those books which are related with second world war. The book talks about people abuse, violence, bullying, hunger, cold and other dark sides of exile. But, whatever it desperate situation of human remains extraordinary spiritual side. Hope and faith that someday things will be fine. This book is a historical fiction that starts in Lithuania in 1941, when main character Lina, her brother, mother, and father have all been captured by secret Soviet police and being taken to concentration camps. The main thing of this story is that father is separated of his family members, so Lina is trying to find him.
The writing of this book was really beautiful and I found it very interesting. It did justice to the story, so I felt like it really fit the story well. Ruta Sepetys kind of made the story available universally, what is very reasonable, because it’s a story that you don’t hear often, what exactly happened in Lithuania in World War two. I was very surprised by reading that when father is separated from his family, the main character Lina is trying to find her father and she’s moving from concentration camp to concentration camp on her way to Siberia and she is using her skills with art and drawing to try leave clues behind to lead him to her after what they can be reunited once this is all over.
I am looking to read more books which are related with wars, love in war where life is changing dramatically.
Ernest
Hi Ernest - I also like this book very much (and I have also been reading a lot of novels related to World War II recently). I did not know anything about the events in this books, especially the deportations from Lithuania to Siberia, until I came to Lithuania. I read this book in 2012 and was so surprised to know that these events took place. I think it is a very important story that everyone should know about. Also, did you know that they have made a movie based on this book? It is coming out very soon, I believe - maybe next month.
ReplyDeleteYes! I saw that this movie is about to be shown in 2018. I am going to enjoy watching.
ReplyDeleteThe movie will be in Klaipeda starting next week! I have a chance to go see it with some friends; I'm excited to see it (but I always get a little nervous when a book I like is made into a movie; what if they change it a lot or don't do it the way I imagined?)
DeleteKeep up the good work, it will be very interesting to learn about Lithuania during the Second World War
ReplyDeleteCool description it was really elaborated. I think after this i must to read more about war.
ReplyDeleteVery exciting responce. I really impressed that story starts in Lithuania because I have never read about this country. Your response hooked me, but really I dont like stories about war because I always cry after reading. Why did you like and choose war theme? Thank you for sharing:)
